Once you have been issued a course completion from us, you may seek to obtain your official EMS certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). After you have achieved national certification, you may then apply for your Texas state licensure through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). To complete either of those processes, you should follow the steps provided below.
National Registry Certification Process:
- Visit the NREMT website to either login to an existing account or create a new account.
- Create a candidate account
- In the school field, enter "Axon Education"
- Pay the Application fee and submit your request to test. When prompted, use the course completion date listed on your Texas EMS School Completion Certificate (see attached).
- IMPORTANT STEP: Once you have submitted your testing request with the National Registry, email [email protected] with the subject “Name, NREMT Verification.” This will prompt Axon to notify the National Registry that you are cleared to take your National exam.
- Once verified, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) letter from the National Registry.
- Schedule your test date
Texas Licensure Process (DSHS):
- Visit the DSHS website to submit your application for Texas licensure.
- If you already have a DSHS account, mostly associated with Advanced EMT and Paramedic students, you can complete the application as an existing user.
- If you do not yet have a DSHS account, typically the case for most EMT students, please register as a new user.
- Create or login to your account and it should direct you to a "Quick Start Menu"
- View the section titled, "Start a New Application or Take An Exam"
- Under " What are you applying for?", complete the following information:
- Board: "Emergency Medical Services"
- Application: "EMS Personnel Initial Online Application."
- Click "Select"
- In the course location field, enter "Abilene, TX"
- In the school field, enter "Axon Education"
- Your course number can be found on your Course Completion Certification (see attached).
- For anything that is not applicable, indicate "N/A"
**Advanced and Paramedic Students: When applying for your DSHS license, you may need to select the "Upgrade" option under the "Manage Your License Information" section. This process may or may not require additional fingerprinting, depending on your previous submissions. Please refer to the instructions provided by DSHS for your specific requirements.
